Investors in People is a United Kingdom nationally recognized standard which measures the effectiveness of a company’s ability to deliver:
- its strategic goals,
- its communications strategy,
- performance management,
- training and development,
- diversity and
- work culture
Investors in People is a tough standard to achieve – Pub Ops attained it in its first attempt. 33% of organizations are refused accreditation at their first assessment. To find out more about Investors in People please visit: http://www.investorsinpeople.co.uk/Pages/Home.aspx
By gaining recognition, Pub Ops joins the ranks of top U.K. companies: around 50% of the FTSE 100 companies now have IIP accreditation including BT Group, Shell, GlaxoSmithKline and British Airways. A two-year study directly linked Investors in People with profitability and business success so IIP recognition is a highly significant business measure.
To undergo assessment for the standard, a specialist IIP assessor visited Pub Ops in February and March this year. The assessment process involved:
- three training sessions for 50 Pub Ops staff
- 57 people across Pub Ops departments interviewed by the assessor over four days
- communication plans, strategy, cultural program information and numerous pieces of documentation supplied to backup the assessment
Here are some of the highlights of the IIP judging panel report:
‘Publishing Operations has been extremely effective at encouraging engagement of its people…People throughout the business feel that their opinions are critical to the decision making process of their team.’
‘…communication, engagement and openness have improved in recent years. Particular credit is given to the ongoing contribution and evolution of the Spotlight program.’
‘There is an excellent variety of learning and development opportunities for people at all levels…’
‘…excellent morale within Publishing Operations’.
