Reed Elsevier is recognised for its efforts in surmounting global challenges

Reed Elsevier has been included in the Global Challenges Index, a tool for investors which identifies companies that are making substantial, forward-looking contributions to surmounting global challenges and promoting sustainable development through their product and service offerings.

A strict two-stage selection process, overseen by an independent advisory board, Hanover stock exchange and oekom research AG, identified 50 companies from an initial 900 for inclusion in the Global Challenges Index.

These companies are recognised for integrating sustainability into their business processes and actively tackling the seven global challenges of our time: combating the causes and consequences of climate change; securing adequate provision of drinking water; stopping deforestation; preserving biodiversity; dealing with population development; combating poverty; and supporting responsible governance structures.

Stringent and consistent performance criteria are set for those companies listed. Importantly for sustainability-oriented investors, the Index identifies those pioneering companies that are actively making use of the opportunities provided by global change.
